Alliances

The Canadian Mountain and Trail Running Association was developed, in part, to allow Canadian Mountain Runners the opportunity to compete with their peers on the international stage at the World Mountain Running Trophy.

Wild, open spaces like the Flathead River Valley are integral to the 5 Peaks Trail Running Series. That's why we've partnered up with Mountain Equipment Co-op to help support TheBigWild.org. It's an online organization that helps Canadians stand up for wilderness protection campaigns. TheBigWild.org offers up access to our political representatives and the tools we need to call upon them to protect large areas of Canada’s public land and water.

The Flathead River Valley is an eco-system that needs public input for protection right now. In early February 2010, the BC government announced a ban on all oil, gold and coal extraction in the Flathead. This is three of five steps successfully completed toward total protection of the Flathead River Valley. Now we’re on to the fourth step, which involves setting up a wildlife management area that ensures wildlife can travel freely along a protected north-south corridor more than 1000 kilometres in length.

The race is on to protect the Flathead River Valley and the wildlife that call it home, forever. Visit TheBigWild.org and stand up for the wild spaces that we cherish as runners and love to experience. (Photo courtesy of Joe Riis, iLCP)

Comprised of a community of environmentally active athletes and supporters, Preparing the Trail 2010 is running a national tree planting program to represent a symbol of loyalty to our natural playgrounds. The trees can be adopted on the Preparing the Trail 2010 website for $10 each, where proceeds are distributed as such: 50% towards Athletic Charities, 25% towards Trees Ontario's 50 Million Tree Initiative and various other environmental programs, and the remaining 25% goes towards getting the next tree in the ground.
