Join some of Canada's top runners for a fun but tough uphill challenge. Two courses will be available: 8 km (sport) with 800m vertical or 12 km (enduro) with 1200m vertical. For those competing in the national championship (and have pre-qualified), the distances are 8k - Junior Men (U20), Junior Women (U20), Senior Women, Masters Men (40+), Masters Women (40+), 12k - Senior Men.

Your registration fee includes (sport/enduro/national championship categories) a unique souvenir t-shirt, a ticket to ride down the gondola, and a post-race beverage at Eagle's Eye Restaurant. Eagle's Eye Restaurant is also offering a delicious lunch buffet for only $18.00 from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.

The Canadian Mountain Running Championship will start from the base area of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.  The course will follow marked trails and service roads to the summit of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.  The gondola will be operational.

NOTE:  Individuals participating in the uphill 8 km and 12 km events will have a gondola ticket included in their entry fee.  The two children’s events (1 km and 500m) will start and finish at the TOP of the mountain and participants must purchase their own gondola lift pass.  Please allow for 15 minutes to get to the top of the gondola, prior to registration and the start.

Event Schedule:

8:00 AM - Packet Pickup for all Events
8:45 AM - Packet pickup closes
9:00 AM - Start for 8 km and 12 km categories
8 km category will start approx 1 km up the road (participants need to walk to start line)
9:30 AM - Post race food & beverage available in race compound
11:00 AM - Start of the 500 m and 1 km Kids Events (Top of Resort)
11:00 AM - 11:30 AM - Lunch Buffet at Eagle's Eye ($18 / per person, purchase at Restaurant)
12:00 PM - Awards Ceremony: time is approximate

First Aid & Water Stations:

2 Water/Aid Stations (1 at start / finish area, and 1 midway through course) will be provided. First Aid attendants at the Start/Finish area, at aid station and throughout course with radio communication. Course sweep will travel behind last racer.


Ample washroom facilities are available at the base and summit of the mountain.


There is ample parking at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Follow signage and park in any public lot.

Important Notes:

Persons interested in competing for a spot on the national team must pre-qualify and compete in the gender-appropriate distance. More information on qualifying is available here: Any runner may compete in the general sport & enduro categories.

Absolutely no pre-running the course as the resort is closed to the public until June 28 and uphill travel is normally prohibited.

Gondola tickets are ONLY included with the registration in the Sport (8km) and Enduro (12 km) events. Spectators and kids participating in the kids events must purchase their own gondola tickets.

Gondola passes are priced as follows and can be purchased directly from Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, or as part of an accommodation package (

Youth: $18.95 ($45.95 including lunch at Eagle's Eye Restaurant)
Child: $14.95 ($28.95 including lunch at Eagle's Eye Restaurant)
Children under 5: FREE ($5.95 including lunch at Eagle's Eye Restaurant)

This race is not part of the regular 5 Peaks BC race series. Separate registration is required.


Spectators are welcome. The best viewing will be from the summit.

Awards & Prizes:

Awards ceremony will be held following completion of all competitors. (Approximately 12:00 pm). Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers in each age category in all distances.

Canadian Mountain Running Championship podium finishers (top 3 females in 8 km and top 3 males in 12km) will receive cash awards. The national team and national champions will be named at the awards ceremony.

All awards must be picked up at the race and will not be mailed.
